Our Services
Nuclear Power Consulting
We will contribute to the success of your nuclear power project by removing technical barriers and providing a source of industry knowledge and experience.
An ideal role for our company is as Owner's Engineer, ensuring EPC and OEM designs, analyses, and calculations are technically proficient and comply with regulations prior to owner's acceptance.
We thrive on first-principles problem solving and first-of-a-kind analyses, especially when the complexity requires a tailored approach.
If we aren't the right fit for your project, then we will leverage our nuclear industry network to find a better fit for you.
Electrical Power Systems Analysis
Our electrical power systems analyses include load flow studies to ensure adequate voltage and current to equipment, battery sizing, generator and motor starting transients, protective device sizing, cable ampacity, and transformer loading studies.
Our core competencies include sizing Class 1E DC batteries and performing load flow studies of 480 VAC and 4160 VAC systems.
We are skilled with ETAP software, which has become the nuclear power industry standard for analyzing electrical distribution systems.
We will ensure Class 1E compliance for nuclear safety-related applications in accordance with IEEE standards and NRC regulations.
Instrumentation & Controls
We have extensive industry experience with nuclear power plant I&C components and systems, including digital (software-based and field programmable) and analog technology.
We know IEEE Standards 603 and 7-4.3.2.
We can assist with your I&C system design and equipment selection for safety-related and non-safety related applications, environmental qualification program reviews, and commercial grade dedication activities.
We have experience as owner's engineer for analog-to-digital upgrades and equipment refurbishment in existing nuclear plants.
Regulatory & Licensing Support
We have experience dealing with the complexities of NRC regulations and guidance, 10 CFR 50 and 52, DOE requirements for test reactors, and State of Texas nuclear regulations.
We can leverage our experience working with the NRC on licensing of digital I&C systems to help with other regulatory-intensive activities such as Early Site Permit (ESP) and Combined Operating License (COL) applications.
Our central location in Austin, TX gives us easy access to the state capitol to discuss state-level nuclear regulation requirements with the relevant agencies.
Workforce Training & Education
Workforce training and education is the cornerstone to advancing nuclear power in Texas and the US.
Training & Teaching Experience
- US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program Technicians
- Electrical and I&C engineers in nuclear industry workforce
- Math and science at university and community college level
We can leverage our connections at University of Texas at Austin, Austin Community College, the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program, and the nuclear industry to help build training and education programs in the State of Texas.
QA Program Reviews
10 CFR Part 50 Appendix B provides the criteria for a quality assurance program that can be used for the design, manufacturing, analysis, and testing of equipment and systems to be used in nuclear safety-related applications.
Commercial grade dedication is an invaluable method of taking off-the-shelf components and ensuring they can be used in safety-related applications through sufficient testing and analysis, but these activities must also be performed under a 10 CFR 50 Appendix B program.
We have experience auditing and reviewing 10 CFR 50 Appendix B QA programs, including corrective action programs, defect and non-compliance reporting, and commercial grade dedication programs.
Systems Engineering
We apply formal system engineering techniques, including system-level analysis and modeling, designing for operational feasibility, and systems engineering management.
Support of the full system development lifecycle from conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design through system test, evaluation, and validation, including software V&V and configuration management.
Standard nuclear industry techniques of failure modes and effects analyses, reliability analyses, common-cause failure evaluations, and single-point vulnerability studies.
Requirements engineering, management, and tracing, including stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering.
Complex Data Analysis
We can analyze large and noisy data sets using advanced data analysis techniques such as Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling and Bayesian analysis, which are similar to machine learning and artificial intelligence computing techniques.
We develop Python coding uniquely tailored to your data analysis needs, allowing analysis of trends and predictions of future data sets.
We have extensive experience performing statistical analyses for the nuclear industry including hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, and experimental design.
